Registration for American Idol

As soon as I can find the software for our digital camera, I'll get some pictures uploaded. For now, here's our story.

Yesterday we left for KC after I got off work. We packed up some food, a couple changes of clothes, and miscellaneous items. We got to KC around 7pm, and went to Kemper Arena, just to check it out. Then, we made our way to the motel.

Now, I don't know my way around KC at all. However, when I told a co-worker that we were staying at a place on "Paseo Drive" he told me that I should reconsider. In fact, when we actually got to the hotel, there was a guy in the lobby that I talked to briefly and he even told me that "the neighborhood gets a little rough." I'm a big girl. I can handle rough.
We finally get to our room and OMG! Okay, I need my coffee in the morning - no coffee pot. The bathroom door was practically a piece of plywood with a handle on it, and the shower head came up to my shoulder! Plus, the bathroom was so small that Alex smacked her arm against the wall just trying to change clothes!UGH! On top of that, there was no remote for the TV, the room was hotter than hell, and the AC barely worked! But, it gets better <sarcasm>.
At 10pm, we turn out the lights, turn off the TV (manually) and climb into bed. Since it was sooooo hot in there, we each slept with only a sheet on us. Then, every half hour or so, sirens would blaze down the road. ALL NIGHT LONG! There were a couple times that the door handle was jiggled during the night too. EEK! Welcome to the Ghetto!
The plus side - as if there could be one - was that the room was extremely cheap (guess why!) and the beds were surprisingly comfortable.

At 4am this morning, we got up and got ready to head out to Kemper Arena. We headed out around 5am. Seriously, I got lost. Twice. In fact, we went in circles for at least 20 or 30 mintues. I kept my cool though and only got "slightly" snippy.
There was no place open that I could stop and ask directions. Fortunately, we finally found a cab pulled over on the side of the road. The gentleman was nice enough to give us easy directions to where we needed to be.
On the way to the arena, we had to cross this long bridge. I think it was the worst bridge EVER. It was not good on any car. In fact, at one point, I had to slam on my brakes in order to s-l-o-w-l-y go over a spot where the road was, literally, four inches higher thanthe pavement leading up to that spot! That's a good way to screw up your axle!

All in all, we were still making good time. It was only about 5:15am when we arrived and drove through the maze to get to a parking space. Not bad. We then walked about five city blocks until we were guided into line with the hundreds of other people. Then we sat.
We sat there until 7:30am. Then we were "herded", a little at a time, forward. Of course there was the staged "Woo!"-s and "Kansas City Rocks" chants instigated by several camera persons. Alex said that we should all be moo-ing because we were all acting like cows: hurry up, stop, bump into each other, wait, and do it again.
We didn't see anyone that we knew. There was no singing in line. But the B.O. was very noticeable! We had four people who were behind us the whole way talking about shaving various body parts, tatoos, and they reeked of BO and cigarettes. ACK! Alex retaliated by letting a few "S.B.D"-s while in line. LOL. Although, she didn't tell me until afterwards.

We finally made it inside. Alex and I showed our IDs to the people handling registration. I got a red wristband and Alex got a blue one. We also got seating tickets. Then, we left.

Alex and I decided that we would not be staying another night in our lavish hotel suite. (LOL) We don't need to be back for auditions until 5am on Friday. Um... I think I'll just get up really really early and drive up there.

We got back to town around 11a, made a couple pit stops, and then came home. Alex is napping now. I'm about to head that way myself. <Yawn> We're sleepy.

Friday is the big day! Go ALEX!!
