Tonight we saw Macbeth at Topeka Civic Theatre. I had four tickets, so I took my mom, her husband, and a friend of her's, Adam. Since it was a dinner theatre we went as early as possible so we could be one of the first to go through the buffet line. Although the doors opened at 6 and the show didn't start til 8, it seemed to be a comfortable amount of time. Especially for me, because I am a very slow eater.
Dinner was good. Carved Baron Beef, ham, mashed and new potatoes w/ gravy, mixed veges (ick), and dinner rolls. Good stuff.
The show started and the theatre darkened. Now, I don't know a thing about Macbeth, and very little more about the whole Shakespearean era. At intermission I told my mom that it was like watching an italian opera, I couldn't understand hardly anything they were saying. LOL.
Dessert was during intermission. I had the banana foster. YUM! Adam said he was surprised that I didn't order something chocolatey. I told him, "that just shows how little you know about me." <Not sarcastic, but with a smile> We looked through the wine list and Adam, a frat bro, said something about how I should try something called "Uzo". I told him that I don't drink and he was taken back. I said, "See? You only think you know me." LOL. Adam has been a friend of my mom's for quite a while, but I've only talked to him in passing. I guess my personality gives off a false impression of who I am. Who knew?? LOL.
Act II was much shorter than the first and the show ended right about 10:30. We all said a quick good-bye and I went to pick Alex up from karaoke at "The Break Room" downtown. Did you know there is a gay bar downtown? I did. Alex didn't. We passed a few couples on the street and Alex was surprised to see them holding hands and such in public. Hey, who cares? Love whoever you love, just love someone.
Now, we are home. I'm tired. I had a good evening. You know, I've said it a lot lately, but I really am pretty darn happy. Goodnight friends.
