Good Week!

Poetry Reading

Today was a good day. I've been talking with one of the people who used to receive the weekly "Celsi's Outpost" mailing. He's a good guy and he invited me to a poetry reading at Washburn University. It was interesting.

Wayne Miller is the "poet" who read tonight. He doesn't really write the type of poetry that I would read. If I want poetry about history, I'd write some. I don't like overly intricate phrasing, which should be read to oneself and not aloud in order to get the true picture. And I don't like repetition, using the same word in every single poem, such as "light" or "window" or "nature". Mix it up a little bit! Find a thesaurus and look some stuff up! That's what it's there for!

I met my friend Leif there. I hadn't ever met him in person before, but we've talked online off and on for years. Good guy. It's always nice when there is common ground and no lagging in the conversation. My fortune is that Leif is a great conversationalist and an all-around interesting person.

After the reading, we went to World Cup which is a coffeehouse close to the University. The talking continued and it was a very nice time. Hopefully we'll be able to get together again soon and talk more.

Poetry is our key interest right now. He's taking a creative writing class, or will be. I told him that I wanted to know what they were doing in class and that perhaps it would inspire me to write something myself. As we were discussing the author, Wayne Miller, the topic of writing outside the comfort zone came up. Leif commented that he was pretty comfortable with writing about anything, so I gave him a challenge to write about a mirror. I chose this particular topic because I know him well enough to see that there have been many changes within himself over the past few years. It'll be intersting to see what he comes up with.

Oh! I almost forgot this part! Leif did tell me that he was a little intimidated about meeting me. I told him not to worry about it, that I hear that all the time. Why is that?? What could possibly be so intimidating about lil' ol' moi? And why does everyone keep saying that?!

Furniture

The craziest damn thing happened yesterday. Justin had called me at work to say that he left some CDs for Alex in between our door and screen door at home. I told him I would be home at lunch and would get them.

When I got home, I notice a box sitting on the front porch. It was a card table and four chairs, brand new, still in the box. Hm! So, I called Justin to see if he had left that also. Nope. I called my mom who answered the phone "$15.99! Am I close?" LOL. I still have no idea what that was about. But, when I asked if she dropped it off for me,... Nope. I called my ex-husband, whom I'm always hounding for new furniture from... Nope. Then, I called my dad. My dad is moving to KC with his wife. I figured he probably found the table & chair set while packing and cleaning out the house... Nope again. Hm indeed!!

Finally, after work, when I got home I went next door to the neighbor's and asked the guy if he was expecting a package. He said that his friend had texted (is that a word now?!) him, saying that he left the package behind the chairs, which is where I found it.

Damn me for being a nice person! LOL!!

Wedding

My friend Gwen got married this weekend! Yeah! She was so beautiful!!! The time of day was perfect, the wind was perfect, the temperature was perfect, everything perfect for an outdoor wedding! PERFECT! The ceremony wasn't too long, wasn't too short, wasn't packed with unimportant stuff, but had all the good important stuff, and a beautiful song played. I wish I could remember what it was!  Ah, to be in love....... It's wonderful. I am so very happy for her to have that in her life. She is one who truly deserves it.

Congratulations Gwen!
