Is it HOT in here, or is it ME? - High School Reunion

My 20th High School Reunion was this weekend. I was soooo very not excited for this. Here's the scoop. I hated high school. I never thought I was popular, although I think everyone knew who I was. We didn't have much money and we were picked on a lot at a young age for it. Since I grew up in the country, I went to school with the same kids from grade school to high school. There was no way to get a "fresh start" out there. UGH.

Most of the people that showed up for the reunion were, back then, the "cool" people. I never hung out with ANY of them. So, imagine how I felt when I showed up to see everyone. EEK! Put the brakes on!!

Friday night was the mixer. Everyone met at this bar out north of town. I would guess that there were approximately 20 classmates there. UGH, my memory is SHOT!! I couldn't remember most people's names and some I didn't remember at all. Horrible! I will say this for the males in my class........ DAMN! They sure did grow up right and fine. HOT! I managed to mingle with the sexiest of the sexy men and with most everyone else too. I was dressed to impress. :) After all, you know "how I roll" when I go out.

Saturday, there was a tour of the remodelled high school. I skipped that because I didn't want to drive ALL THE WAY up north. I didn't like it back then. I didn't want to go back there. So, I didn't.

This afternoon, we went to a picnic luncheon at Shawnee Lake. I mingled a little more as new people showed up. That night we all gathered at Blind Tiger for our "formal" dinner. Oh yeah, I was workin it! I looked DAMN good! In fact, I even gotta a little *wink* from one of the "sexy"-s. (Let's just call them the sexys from here on out, shall we?) LOL. More new people showed up and so I used my magical mingling abilities some more. I took my baby girl with me for the dinner. Here's why...

During dinner, one of the "ladies" asked me what I had done since high school. I had spent Friday evening and most of the day Saturday with all these people, and NO ONE had asked me that!!! I told her a brief summary of what I'd done. When the area cleared out, I told Alex that that was the first person to ask me about me throughout the entire pack of events! Now, this is why I love my baby girl so much. Alex said to me, "Well, Momma, you are the most successful looking person here. Maybe they don't want to feel disappointed with themselves when compared to you." Awww. I felt better after that. She always knows what to say. :)

I won't really make any complaints about the reunion - except one generalization. As my friends all know, I'm an openly judgemental person usually. I hadn't seen any of these people for 20 years. That being the case, why would you not "step it up a notch" before going to meet them?? T-shirts and blue jeans??? Really? Is that how you want to be remembered? Maybe it's just me, but I want people to say "wow, she looks great!" and remember me that way. Ce la vie.

OH! Forgot to mention that I'm planning to meet one of the sexys for dinner tomorrow night. Nothing major really. I mean, he lives on the east coast. Still, who wouldn't want to have dinner with a sexy man?? I was the one who extended the invitation. Let's see if it actually pans out, shall we?

This Week in the Life of Me

Let's start at today and work our way backwards.

Tonight I went to a PRE-union. Know what that is? Anyone? Anyone? LOL. Ok, so I thought it was just like a little get-together prior to the actual 20 year high school reunion. Oh, was I wrong! No no, it was a planning party FOR the reunion. As you all know, I am not one for hanging out in bars. I'll go if I'm with a good friend(s) to see a show or something, but I'm not really comfortable there. BUT, I went. It was some little place that was packed to the GILLS at 7pm! Wow! Maybe I'm just not into it anymore, but when I used to go clubbing and actually did hang out in bars, they didn't start filling up until around 9 or 10. Have times changed? Or is there nothing better to do in (gasp) "North Topeka" than to go to the bar after work?

So, anyway... I get there and I don't see anyone I know amongst the millions of people crammed into this gi-HUGE-ic packed to the gnats ass bar. EEK! In fact, I walked in, alone, and looked around and "Holy SHIT" flew right out of my mouth!! No worries, I found them almost immediately after my initial shock.

There they were. Five people that I went to school with and never hung out with. We went to school together for close to seven years and I only knew their faces and their high school reputations (which were not bad). Still, I sat, got comfy, did the old "what have you been up to" type of conversation that everyone does when they haven't seen someone in a long time. Still, I have not much in common with these women, but sure, I'll help throw out ideas about what to do for the reunion. And so the night went on........ until 10. Then I came home.

Yesterday, I finally got a new (used) couch! Yeah! It's soooooo much better than my old one. Love it! I had to get a friend of mine to help me get it in. Oh, and who would be the mastermind to get it in the house? I win! LOL.

I did something Wednesday, but........ oh yeah.... So, Wednesday, I picked up Alex after work and took her shopping since she just got paid. She gave me a couple hundred dollars for bills and she bought me a book at Barnes and Noble, and paid for dinner. Then, we went to my friend Dewayne's to pick up the couch.

Fortunately, it fit, completely, in the back of my van. I was even able to get the back hatch door shut. Good thing too because there was no one to help me move it in Wednesday night. Alex couldn't/wouldn't do it. UGH.

After we got home from Dewayne's, Alex wanted to go see a movie. The one she picked was one that I did want to see (surprisingly), but it didn't start until 9:30pm. I couldn't do it. There was no way I was going to be able to stay up that late (11:30), come home and wind down, and make it to work the next day. No way! So, I took her to Hastings instead. She picked out a couple movies (which took For-ev-er!) and we FINALLY went home! Whew!

But wait....... Alex then puts in "Juno", which was one of the movies she just rented. ACK! Of course, I stayed up and watched it all. Yep, I was totally tired the next day. (Yawn)

Tuesday, I hung out with a guy I met recently. Don't get your hopes up. We're still getting to know each other. We watched Benny and Joon and then it was time for him to go. Two hours. I set the limits, as always. Oh, and I looked him up on http://www.dc.state.ks.us/kasper. This is a website you can go to and look up people to see if they've ever been incarcerated in Kansas. He hasn't. LOL.

I've said it before: He's a decent enough guy. LOL. He's not bad looking, good story-teller, always smells good. Where will it go? Who knows.

Let's face it. I don't remember what the heck I did on Monday. LOL. That was sooooo long ago. Um........ let me think........ nope. I don't remember.

Tomorrow night, my friend Brad is coming over for dinner. I love Brad. He's a great guy. I'm so happy that he and I have been able to work past all the bullshit that happened in the past and renew a friendship.
I plan to make dinner and then we'll probably spend the evening on the new couch listening to various musicians and talking about who-knows-what. Isn't that what friends are for? LOL.
