Ben says...

My friend, Ben, from New York has always told me that when writer's block sets in, you fix it by starting at the beginning. Make a list of words that pertain to how you feel, meld them together, throw in some "and"-s, "or"-s, and "the"-s. So, here goes....

The time is fading away
Even as the time grows closer
To the end of this chapter
Of who we are

We spend countless hours
Staring at the same faces,
The same walls, and travelling
The same city streets

Be to work by eight
Lunch alone at noon
Race among peers at five
Only to stare at the walls again

The pictures in frames, unchanging
Reminding us of who we've been
Where we've visited or lived
How happy we were

Every ring of the phone is predictable
"How is your day going" from him
"I love you" from mother
"You owe me" from everyone else

I want to push the walls away
Let in some new air to breathe
Dress in the finest costume I own
And let the smiles come naturally

I want to be the center of your attention
And play my music ear-piercing loud
Spin around on the beach
Truly enjoying the youth I am inside

The time is fading away
Even as the time grows closer
To the next chapter of life
And allowing us to discover
Who we'll be then
