Is it a "girl thing" to keep all your old love notes, cards, etc. that you've received in the past? I have a ton of these things, and every once in a blue moon, I love to pull them out and think about all the good times. It's not a sad thing. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to think of all the funny things and happy times that I've had.
Along with all the old love letters and stuff, there are also a TON of poems that I've either written or received from loves long gone. There are emails of encouragement; a special thanks to you, M.J., whom I've known more years than I can remember and have leaned on for support an equal amount of times. There is an entire book of lore from Shaun W. who loved me with all his heart for two years from a thousand miles away. (Oh, how I miss him sometimes.) And the "break up" letter (UGH!) I'd written so many times than I used to be able to recite it line by line. I've got numerous cards that came with bouquets of flowers, Valentine's Day and anniversary cards by the dozens, and cards that simply say "I love you".
Just Me©
by Celsi Jude Erwing
Strip away the clothing
Wipe off the shadow and rouge
Straighten the curls
And underneath it all, you’ll see
There’s just me
Forget all the times I stuck up for you
Forgive any ill-haps from my past
Deny the fact of trust that you know
Without all these things, you’ll see
There’s just me
I am not the Venus goddess
I am no super model
I can’t right all of my wrongs
Nor can I fix your problems
I’m not a perfect “10”
I was never completely honest
But I was always there for you
That’s just me
If you hadn’t passed me on the street
If you never knew my name
Had you never read a word I wrote
Your world would still be complete
Except one thing… just me.
