Let the world fend for itself.
Close all the doors,
Let the children walk barefooted
In daddy's t-shirts they've slept in.
Close your eyes.
Take one last breath
Or a sigh of relief.
Do you know the difference?
Look around the room,
Memorizing the color of light,
The depth of darkness in the
Back of your mind.
Let the world devour itself,
Swallowing up the leftovers of you;
Creating your pressures of life,
Now, savoring your departure.
Close the doors,
Walk away with some dignity.
Where is your pride at now?
Sweep between the cracks in the floor,
Piling up the remainders of yourself
To be easily found when you leave.
Where will you go?
When will you return?
Let the world destroy itself,
Moreso than it has destroyed you.
The mountains will crumble beneath feet.
Oceans will gulp up the profoundly wealthy.
Night will smother the others,
Others who didn't care to listen.
I saw you there, on the floor, in the corner,
Crouched like an overly disciplined child,
Crying out to be noticed, to be heard.
Now one was there, and now,
Neither are you.
Where have you slipped away to?
Let the world slip away.
Close all the doors and
Turn out the lights.
Tomorrow, the world will not be the same.
